| | Warborough slumped to a fifth successive defeat when they lost by 46 runs to Kensington on Sunday. An early breakthrough and some tidy bowling appeared to justify Warborough's decision to bat first on a gloriously sunny morning; but Rohan Ghosh's 70 saw Kensington through to the lunch interval well placed at 112 for two. However, as is so often the case, lunch under the oak tree appeared to soften the visitors' resolve, and Alan Tilley capitalised by taking five wickets for just 19 runs as Kensington were dismissed for 174. Warborough were left with plenty of time in which to chase down the target, and knuckled down to the task against some wayward opening bowling. Warborough appeared to be on course for a welcome victory even when Paul Buckner, having made three runs out of an opening partnership of 48, was pinned in front without any discernable movement of the feet. However, his dismissal sparked the inevitable mid-innings collapse, spectacularly so on this occasion as, with tea imminent, four wickets proceeded to fall with the score on 54, including that of debutant Gavin McLauchlan for a first-ball duck. A valiant rearguard action from Ben Morton and grandfather Stan Cotten (33*) saw Warborough into the last hour, before Morton's frustration got the better of him. Ed Hall then joined McLauchlan in the Primary Club when his middle pole was uprooted, before Kamal Prabhakar (4-10) returned to finally break the stubborn last-wicket stand with six overs to go. |
